Carrying over the discussion from last hour on religion and education- because goodness Dom got fired up. Let's start with a simple question: should children be beat in schools for any reason? What about disabled children? Is it okay if it's a teacher rather than a student? Some Oklahoma Senators, 16 in fact, seem to think that adults in schools have the God-given right to use corporal punishment on disabled children. One went so far as to say that banning educators from using corporal punishment- aka physically abusing- children was "socialist" ideology. Well mark us down as socialist in that case. Because in our book, hitting children is NEVER ok, full stop. As an aside, the same can't be said for Wisconsin state Rep. Shae Sortwell, who faced investigation for striking his child so vigorously a relative found five bruises days after the latest beating.

Keep schools as places for children to learn. And especially, keep public schools places where all children, regardless of religion, thrive and don't fear physical abuse from the adults they should trust. Goodness that seems simple.

We end the day with something good. Today, we hear from our pal and favorite Delano Democrat, Harvey Kaye in a pre-recorded message. Harvey delivered the key toast for the Florida Veterans for Common Sense 288th birthday party for Thomas Paine. As always, Harvey knows how to pair progressive passion with inspired eloquence!
